Wedding Tips to Keep You on Budget!

How do I have a beautiful wedding while sticking to a budget? This is the number 1 question brides deal with when planning a wedding.  So with that being said here are some suggestions to help you do just that!!

  • The Venue: Pick a venue that can accommodate both the wedding and reception. This will help you save money with rental fees and decor. Sites that host weddings usually have chairs, tables, bars, and even lines and food incorporated into the price.

  • Your Wedding Date: Choose a wedding date that is in the off season. All locations have off seasons and when you get married during the off season you can negotiate a better deal. Also keep in mind the day of the week in which you want to get married. Weddings that are held on Thursday, Friday and Sunday cost less than those that are held on Saturdays.

  • Food & Drink: Serve the meal buffet style. This will help to cut down on waste. You may want to consider serving only wine and beer. A bottle of wine contains five glasses. If you provide booze, buy your own. A liter of Vodka contains approximately 25.

  • Flowers: Use flowers that are in season. Buy once, use twice! The flowers you use to decorate your wedding ceremony can be used to decorate the reception.
If you have any money saving tips you would like to share then please leave a comment. I would love to read your ideas!

I hope you found these suggestions helpful as you plan your big day!

Tips to Theive Proof your Wedding Reception

Hi Everyone,

So its your BIG day and the last thing you want is to be the victim of theft at your wedding reception. Unfortunately this is happening. Thieves are crashing weddings and making off with the gifts and cards filled with money. So here are some tips you can do to thief proof your reception:

  • Create an online registry and have the presents sent directly to your house (or another family member's house, like your mom's). The best way to ensure nothing is stolen is to spread the word that you'd prefer presents mailed to your residence rather than brought to the reception.
  • Place your gift table far from an exit to make it more difficult for anyone who's trying to steal your presents, or...
  • Forgo having a gift table all together. Instead, visit each table during the reception so that guests have the opportunity to hand you envelopes of cash or checks -- but only if they wish to do so. You should never ask for cash.
  • If you spot a wedding crasher, don't be polite and ignore them. Ask your day-of coordinator or an attendant to ask the crasher to leave.
  • Ask a trustworthy friend to act as gift attendant. Ask him to store the gifts in a secure place (like a locked room) rather than displaying them in the open.
  • If your reception is large (over 300 people) and the site is in a high-traffic area (like in any urban setting), consider hiring security, both to prevent theft and to quash any other rowdiness that might transpire.
  • Think about buying wedding insurance. Coverage from a company like WedSafe will cover stolen gifts as long as it's reported right away.

We at Brandi's Bridal Boutique want your wedding day to be special and memorable as it should be. Please feel free to share any information that is provided on this blog.

How To Have The Best Wedding Ever!

Hi Everyone,

What Bride doesn't want the perfect wedding, right? Well aiming for perfection isn't the way to go because nothing is perfect except for God. The way your wedding day turns out is the way it is meant to be. However, making the wedding memorable is what is important and I think the key ingredient for that is to make your wedding personal.

Starting with writing your own wedding vows. Ask your officiant for a standard copy of basic wedding vows. Use that to incorporate your own personal thoughts to share with your partner as you state your love and commitment to one another. Make it even more memorable by not sharing your vows to your partner until that very special day.

When saying your vows be sure you can be heard. Your guests have come along way to witness this special day and they want to be able to hear what you have to say.

Another way to make your wedding memorable is to have the officiant share your story of how the two of you met. More than likely the only ones that will know this is close friends and family. By sharing your story with those who don't know, brings a certain intimacy to the ceremony, which will allow your guests to feel the love that the two of you share.

Finally, invite your guests to share a personal wish for the two of you. This is a nice way for your guests to be involved in making your wedding day the most memorable and best wedding it can be!!

I wish all the brides and grooms who will marry this year the very best!!

Please be sure to visit www.brandisbridalboutique.com for all your wedding needs.

Bachelorette Party Ideas

Bachelorette Party

While some brides enjoy an X-rated bachelorette party, plenty of brides prefer to keep things more tasteful, and sometimes, even classy. If you are planning the bachelorette party, it can be a challenge to find an idea that fits the bride’s personality, which is why we have compiled a list of possibilities. After all, this is a day, night or weekend the bride will always or never remember, depending on your idea of a good time!

Here are five of our favorite bachelorette party ideas:

  1. Indulge in a day at the spa: Every girl loves to be pampered, especially with the stress of planning a wedding. Spend the day at a full service spa and relax with manicures and pedicures, facials, mud wraps, massages, or even a makeover.

  2. Getaway for the weekend: Whether you choose a tropical destination, Las Vegas or a major city nearby, getting away for the weekend is always a great time. Get away from all the planning and thinking about the wedding. Plan this weekend for the bride to think of nothing but girls’ weekend, spent basking in the sun, visiting the sites and hitting the town at night.

  3. Relax and soak up the rays, poolside: An alternative to a tropical weekend getaway is a pool party. If you don’t have a pool or don’t know anyone with one, consider getting a room at a local hotel with a great poolside atmosphere. Sip some daiquiris, soak up the rays, and spend quality time with your closest friends.

  4. Go Glamping: For your outdoor loving bride-to-be, go glamping for a weekend. Go all out for this, no tents and roughing it, find a cabin or chalet and camp in style. Think glamour, not mosquitoes!

  5. Tickle your taste buds with a wine tour: For the wino bride-to-be, organize a wine tour and enjoy the luscious flavors of the region’s wine. Just make sure you hire a bus or limo to escort you along the tour.

Whether you choose to spend a day at the spa, a weekend away, or a day touring wine country, a bachelorette party should reflect the personality and style of the bride. Your bride might even prefer a night out on the town with her girls; whatever it is, remember it’s the bride’s day or weekend! This means it’s your job to make sure she has an unforgettable time!

What are other bachelorette party ideas? We know the list is endless…

Trend Alert! Pretty Little Flower Girls

Hi Everyone,

We have noticed at Brandi's Bridal Boutique that more and more brides are opting to have flower girls instead of bridesmaids in their wedding party!! Could this be because little girls are less drama than BIG girls? Plus lets face it, picking out flower girl dresses is much easier and a lot more fun than dealing with the decision on how to pick out a dress that will look good on every body type!! I think that we can all agree that you won't be able to please everyone. So I suppose that this new trend of having lots of pretty little flower girls is a way to eliminate some of the stress and who doesn't want that. You can still have your best friend as the Maid/Matron of honor.

But be careful when choosing your flower girls. Be sure they are up for the job! You don't want a little one who will be shy and to afraid to walk down the aisle. Nor do you want the little girl who can't be away from Mommy. Most flower girls are between 4 and 8 years old and are related to the bride or groom or the daughter of a close friend.

Once you have chosen your flower girls, make sure to prepare them for their role and calm any jitters they may have.  Also, before the ceremony begins, make sure to have them use the restroom. Most of all, keep in mind that they are little girls, so don’t be too uptight if she dumps all of the petals on the ground.

Your little flower girls will look like princesses with all of her accessories from Brandi's Bridal Boutique!

Marriage The Second Time Around

Hi Everyone,

It seems that everything you see on the internet is geared toward first time brides. Well I thought I would blog about women who are getting married for the second time. So your first marriage wasn't happily ever after like you thought it would be. That doesn't mean you don't deserve happiness. Getting married for the second time could turn out to be the best thing you ever did!! I can say that because that is exactly how it happened for me! So I wanted to give some information to women who have found love for the second time and want to get married!

It is probably safe to say that you already had the Fairy Princess Wedding and went all out, well guess what no need to do that again! So wedding planning should be relatively easy with minimal cost. You know by now that the wedding doesn't make the marriage. So a small intimate wedding with close family and friends would be appropriate. Some of you might even opt to have just the two of you and an officiant perform the ceremony and then have a big party afterwards. My ceremony was performed by the mayor of our small town and consisted of our daughter serving as flower girl, my best friend serving as our witness and of course my husband and I. My daughter who was 2 1/2 at the time kept asking if we were married yet! Out of the mouths of babes.

Even though the statistics are against you from the get go, have faith in yourself to know what you want. You deserve to be happy and it can work. I wanted to share some tips that I found that might be of some help to you if you are lucky enough to find love the second time around:
  • Bring a fresh outlook and positive energy to the relationship.
  • Live and Learn. Learn from your past experiences and grow from them. You already know what works and what doesn't. Make a list of what you liked and disliked from your past relationship.
  • Most second marriages are blended families. Make sure you both are on the same page as you parent your children. You need to parent as a team. Strong communication will ensure a happy household.
  • Remember you are choosing to get married again. You are getting married because you want to not because you have to.
  • Don't make the mistake of comparing apples to oranges so drop the comparisons at the door. To do so would be disastrous.
  • Make sure your children are on board with your new love interest. Be sure they have a good solid relationship with each other before tying the knot. You want to start your new life on the right foot.
  • Don't be quick to rush into anything. Take your time to really know the person that you are falling in love with. Don't get caught up in what is known to be the "honeymoon stage".
  • You want to be sure that your relationship is for real and not fulfilling some kind of void from your last relationship. Experience the dating scene and have several relationships before tying the knot.
  • Know the reasons why marriage is important to you.
  • Always remember why you wanted to get married in the first place.
Just because you had one failed marriage doesn't mean you are doomed to fail again. I am a firm believer that everything in life happens for a reason and is meant to be. The only thing we can do is to learn from our mistakes and to make better choices next time.

If you are lucky enough to find love the second time around like I have I wish you the best! Also, if you plan to marry and need affordable wedding supplies and bridal accessories, www.brandisbridalboutique.com has what you are looking for.  Anything from cake toppers, toasting glasses, cake servers to bridal jewelry and tiaras.

Do You Have A Back Up Plan?

As you know Mother Nature can sometimes be very uncooperative. So it is imperative to have a back-up plan just in case, especially if you are planning an outdoor wedding. The following wedding tips are sure to assist you with some ideas to plan for that perfect outdoor wedding:

  1. Make your guests comfortable Think about what the weather will likely be at the time of day and month of the year of your outdoor wedding. Sunny and hot? Don't leave your guests uncomfortably melting – have your ushers give guests ice-cold bottles of water as they are seated. Consider printing your wedding program on a fan so that guests may cool themselves. Don't forget to have plenty of sunscreen on hand as well. For a very warm location, look into renting large electric fans (don't forget a generator) and/or a tent to shade the suns rays. If it will be cold and damp, make sure you tell guests that so they can wear extra layers. A simple xeroxed insert will do. You might want to have lap blankets on hand, or rent portable heaters.

  2. Have a backup plan What will you do if it rains? The ideal outdoor wedding location has an indoor location waiting just in case. Many brides and grooms opt to have their ceremony outside and reception inside. In a pinch, the tables can be scooted to the back of the room during the ceremony. A tent is another option, but only for light to moderate rain storms. A heavy rain will soak the ground underneath, leaving guests with soggy and muddy shoes. Make sure any tent you rent is sturdy so it won't flip over, and that it has thick and weighted sides.

  3. Plan for Wind Many outdoor weddings suffer from windy conditions. Avoid light fabrics like chiffons and china silks in your dress and the bridesmaid dresses. Tell your hairstylist that you'll be having an outdoor wedding so she/he can plan a style that won't leave you looking like Cousin It! Men in the wedding party should use pomade or other styling product. Again, tell your guests in a printed insert so that they can plan accordingly. And of course, make sure your tent will stand up to gusting winds or find an indoor backup plan.

  4. Can everybody hear? When you picture your dream wedding at the beach, you're probably not hearing the roaring of the waves, the rushing wind, or the local kids running and screaming around you. Look into renting a sound system with clip mikes for the bride, groom and officiant. Your DJ or band may be able to easily arrange this for you.

  5. Decorations One of the bonuses of an outdoor wedding is the natural beauty around you, lessening your need to decorate. But you still need to do some work. Visit the site a week before your wedding to make sure the grass is mown, the ground raked, and the flowers have bloomed. If your wedding is at a public park, you may want to ask the groomsmen or friends to do this the morning of your ceremony. If it's been an especially cold season, you may need to supplement the flowers with some potted bulbs from a florist. Other decorations you may want to consider include an arch or trellis to focus the ceremony and frame the bride and groom as they say their vows; strings of lights or lanterns in the trees; luminarias; torches; or farolitas.

  6. Make things tasty outside Does your caterer have experience planning an outdoor wedding menu? Make sure they're planning things that will keep well outdoors in the heat. Avoid things like mayonnaise salads or dishes which must be served cold.

  7. Don't leave your guests parched Since alcohol is dehydrating, consider serving a variety of lemonades, teas and punches. Be sure to have plenty of ice and water around as well. For a fancy cocktail, why not serve a classic mint julep or a mojito? The mint will refresh and cool your guests.

  8. Those pesky flying things Be sure to put out citronella candles or a bug zapper so that your guests won't spend the whole ceremony swatting at the air.

  9. Here comes the sun Consider timing your outdoor wedding for sunset where your guests will see you take your vows surrounded by the warm glow of the sun. Those having a daytime outdoor wedding should orient the ceremony so that the sun will be on guests' backs rather than in their eyes.

  10. Permits Don't forget to contact your city parks department or other local government to get a permit for an outdoor wedding. Be sure to ask about rules concerning trash removal, candle or torch lighting, and pre-wedding photography.
Our thanks goes to Nina Callaway from About.com for providing these great wedding tips!

What is your Signature Wedding Cocktail!

Want to add a personal touch to your wedding reception? How about offering a "Signature Cocktail". Perfect for the budget conscious! You will save on the bar bill by just offering beer, wine, champagne and your signature cocktail rather than stocking a full service bar. Pick a drink that offers your favorite liquor, matches your wedding colors or coordinates with the season. Have some fun with this by naming your signature cocktail with a fun quirky name and advertising it at the bar.

Some suggestions for a "Signature Cocktail" could be:
  • Wedding Belle Cocktail
    3/4 oz Dubonnet
    3/4 oz Gin
    1 Dash of Cherry Brandy
    1 Dash of Orange Juice

Shake all ingredients with ice, strain into a cocktail glass, and serve.
 or
  • Sealed with a Kiss
2 oz chocolate liqueur such as Godiva or Crème de Cacao
    1.5 oz vodka
    Hershey's Kiss

Pour all ingredients into a shaker with ice, shake well, and pour into a chilled cocktail glass. Put a Hershey's Kiss in the bottom for the added love touch.
or

  • Hot Romance
    1 1/2 oz rum
    2 oz cranberry juice
    2 oz orange juice

Pour all ingredients into a cocktail glass over ice. Stir and serve with an orange slice.

If you already have a favorite cocktail, just rename it with a cute wedding related name or a name that combines both of your names.

For the more budget conscious bride you could offer a "Wedding Punch". This is a great way to serve many and cut down cost even further.

Here are some recipes:

Elegant Wedding Punch
Makes 16 cups

1/2 cup Chambord raspberry
1 cup Triple Sec
1 cup Brandy
2 cups pineapple juice
1 liter of ginger ale
2 bottles dry champagne

The night before the wedding, chill the ginger ale and the dry champagne. Combine the Chambord, Triple Sec, brandy and pineapple juice in a bowl, cover, and chill overnight. When ready to serve, combine all ingredients and serve in a pretty bowl with ice cubes.

Traditional Wedding Punch
Makes 20 cups

2 cups vodka
4 cups unsweetened pineapple juice
4 cups unsweetened cranberry juice
64 oz ginger ale
2 cups sugar

Mix all ingredients together and serve in a large punch bowl with plenty of ice. Adjust vodka and sugar to your taste. If you are using sweetened juices, you may choose to forgo the sugar altogether.

So let the party begin!!

The "Dollar Dance" ~ In or Out!

Are you thinking about having the "Dollar Dance" aka "Money Dance" at your reception? Do they still do that today? The answer is Yes! This custom is alive and well and still being done at today's wedding receptions. Originated in Poland around the beginning of the 20th century, this custom has become a traditional event at wedding receptions in various cultures. This custom involves male guests paying to dance briefly with the bride, while the female guest pay to dance briefly with the groom. The purpose for this dance was to give the bride and groom a little extra cash to be used on their honeymoon or to set-up housekeeping.

The dance usually takes place after the First Dance but can be after the garter and bouquet toss. Just make sure your guests have had a chance to sit down and have a few drinks. Once the Best Man or DJ announces the event, traditionally the best man begins dancing with the bride, pinning a sum of money onto the brides gown. Sometimes the money is placed in an apron held by the maid/matron of honor and the best man gives shots of whiskey to the participants as they await to dance.

This is a great way for the bride and groom to have a 30-60 sec meet and greet with their guests and to thank them for coming while making a few extra bucks doing so. As for what kind of songs should be played ~ well that is totally up to you. The Dollar Dance doesn't require special meaning songs like the Father/Daughter dance would, so any song will do.

Now I don't know about you but I did this at my wedding back in 1990's and the money sure did come in handy for ready cash. And I would think that in today's economy everyone could use a little extra ready cash. While everything for the honeymoon has been paid for already there will be however some traveling expenses such as cab fare, drinks on the plane and leaving gratuity to name a few.

But if you are feeling a little uneasy about having a "Dollar Dance"  because you think it is tacky to ask your guests to pay out more for your wedding, remember it is their option to dance with you. Usually the sum of money is just a dollar ~ hence the name "Dollar Dance", but could be as much as five to ten dollars. I don't think however that they will be shelling out $100.00 bills, unless they are a very close friend or family member. The "Dollar Dance" tradition has been done for many years and your guests are well accustomed to the ritual.

Emerald Green: the Wedding Color for 2013

Attention all brides, green is in this year!

Pantone, the “world-renowned authority on color” announced emerald green as the color of the year back in December. Crossing industries, emerald green will have an impact on the fashion, beauty, and home interior industries this year. This can only mean that the wedding industry will also see an increase in requests for the gemstone color along with other variations of green.

The color green is often associated with growth, renewal and prosperity. Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute® stated, “Symbolically, Emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world.” Green is also representative of growth, harmony and freshness, the perfect color for weddings, in my opinion anyways!

From invitations, bridesmaid dresses, accent colors, wedding accessories and even beauty products, emerald green will certainly make a statement at weddings nationwide.  Whether you are planning a spring, summer, fall or winter wedding, emerald will work in any season.
